A sustainable pattern of growth and development, both at an individual level and at the level of a nation, requires education. If we are slaves of education, we will be masters of the world, for it is education that can help us to see the world around us. It empowers us to perceive and analyze, conceive and deliver ideas that are good for personal and national growth. Education, as Albert Einstein said, “is not learning of facts but the training of the mind to think.” It opens to us a vast arena of opportunities to think, evolve and progress. Life without education is like a life never lived.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” If you wish to make your world a better place, you need to educate yourself. There are innumerable examples of how people from different socio economic and ethnic backgrounds wonders have done using education as their tool to progress. Luckily, India has a tryst with education since long. We have established institutions like Indian Institute Of Technology and Indian Institute of Management right after independence under the able guidance of the then Education minister Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad. He was also instrumental in establishing Central Board of Secondary Education and University Grants Commission. These education Boards have been instrumental in taking Indian education to new heights. In India, in 2017-18, 36.64 million students enrolled in higher education. In 2017-18, the Gross Enrollment Ratio reached 25.8%. Just behind US, India is the second largest market for e-learning, These figures are expected to increase in future. India’s higher education system is the third largest system in the world, next to US and China.
The recent achiever from this system is the Nobel Laureate Mr. Abhijeet Banerjee We can boast of innumerable top positions around the world where our people are MDs and CEOs in multinational companies. The Harvard Business Review has released a list of 100 world’s best CEOs for the year 2019. Among the top ten CEOs are three Indians, namely, Shantanu Narayen, Ajay Banga and Satya Nadella.
The Chief Executive Officer of Google, Sundar, is an Indian American business executive. He is from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Pichai went to Jawahar Vidalaya, a CBSE school. He has done Metallurgical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. He started from humble middle-class beginnings and became the topmost Executive of the leading corporate firm, Google. He went on to become the man behind Google Chrome and Google Drive and later Gmail and Google maps development. He is an achiever with an ability to grow new products, connect with users and bring revenue for the company.
If it was possible for Sunder Pichai, a two-bedroom house occupant to become Sunder Pichai of giant search engine, Google, it is possible for all of us to reach to equally good heights with the same hard work and determination. Education can take us where we wish to reach.
Another very famous success story is of Satya Nadella, the Chief Executive officer of a multinational giant company, Microsoft. Microsoft’s mission statement, under Nadella’s leadership, was revised to “empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.” He is considered the best Chief Executive Officer of a large American Company under whose guidance the Microsoft stock more than tripled. Good education coupled with diligence and perseverance worked for Nadella to achieve his dreams. It is important to study well and gain knowledge for in a world of high competition knowledge alone is the ladder to be climbed.

We must be thankful to Almighty for living in a world where there is no dearth of opportunities to get the best of education. People can get formal education or can opt for getting connected with the tutors online to enroll in classes. It can be safely said that perhaps education was never so accessible before as it is now. Remember, success requires you to come out of the comfort zone. Success has to be stalked. You need to chase it. Nothing great was ever achieved without toil, dedication and education.
